United States of America (Cypress Bay High
School)

School in the US is divided into Elementary
School (1 st -5 th grade), Middle School (6 th -8 th
grade) and High School (9 th -12 th grade)
​
Students can pick their courses and even take some online. (Certain course credits are required to graduate, including 1 online course). There is an ENORMOUS selection of courses that students can take at Cypress Bay, giving them the opportunity to discover new passions.
​
Students can take classes at 3 different levels: regular, honors and AP/AICE (if offered). Students can even earn college credit in high school by taking AICE/AP courses!
​
There is a letter grading system in which an “A” is the highest grade and an “F” is a failing grade.
A= 100-90
B+=89-87
B= 86-80
C+=79-77
C=76-70
D+=69-67
D=66-60
F=59-0
Grade Point Average (GPA) is also used. (Don’t know what GPA is?, look it up under the “Acronyms” tab!)
Students need to take the SAT or the ACT assessments to apply to most colleges. (Learn more about these tests under the “Acronyms” tab!)

Students need to complete at least 40 hrs. of community service to graduate High School. In order for these service hours to be recorded, students must print out a service hour learning sheet that may be found on the Cypress Bay Website, and submit it to guidance. Service hours can be tracked on Virtual Counselor.

Students have the opportunity to join as many clubs offered at Cypress Bay as they want, such as SHPE!! However, colleges do not want students who belong to every single club, but students who show passion for a specific subject or field. For instance, if you want to be an Engineer, join SHPE!
​
Students are highly encouraged to have leadership positions which can be obtained by creating a new club, being an officer at one of the many clubs at the Bay, being camp counselors or running for the Student Government Association. SHPE offers many leadership opportunities.

Los Estados Unidos (Cypress Bay High School)

Los estudiantes pueden elegir sus cursos e incluso tomar unos en línea. (Se requieren ciertos créditos de cursos para graduarse, incluyendo 1 curso en línea). Hay una amplia selección de cursos que los estudiantes pueden tomar en Cypress Bay, dándoles la oportunidad a los estudiantes de descubrir nuevas pasiones.
Los estudiantes pueden tomar clases en tres niveles diferentes: regular, honores y AP / AICE (si se ofrecen). Los estudiantes pueden obtener créditos universitarios en la escuela secundaria tomando cursos AICE y AP!
Hay un sistema de calificación en letras en la que una "A" es la nota más alta y una "F" es la nota mas baja.

Los estudiantes deben tomar el SAT o ACT para aplicar a la mayoría de las universidades. (Más información sobre estas pruebas en la pestaña "siglas"!)

Los estudiantes necesitan completar al menos 40 horas de servicio a la comunidad para graduarse de la preparatoria. Para que estas horas de servicio sean registradas en el sistema, los estudiantes deben imprimir una hoja de servicio de aprendizaje llamada “Student Service Learning Sheet”,que se puede encontrar en el sitio web de Cypress Bay, y entregarlo a “Guidance”. Las horas de servicio pueden ser monitoreadas a través de el Consejero Virtual (Virtual Counselor).
Los estudiantes tienen la oportunidad de unirse a cuantos clubes como se ofrecen en Cypress Bay, tal como lo es SHPE !! Sin embargo, las universidades no quieren que los estudiantes pertenezcan a todos los clubes, sino que demuestren pasión por un tema o campo específico. Por ejemplo, los futuros ingenieros deberían formar parte de SHPE!

Se anima a los estudiantes a formar parte de posiciones de liderazgo a través de la creación de un nuevo club, o a ser un funcionario en uno de los muchos clubes de Cypress Bay, ser consejero de un campamento o participar en la Asociación del Gobierno Estudiantil. SHPE ofrece muchas oportunidades en el área liderazgo.
